Using our Product to Hire Great People

‘Eat your own dog food,’ ‘drink your own Kool-Aid – or champagne.’ Are all common buzzwords amongst technology startups. At Unbounce, we mean it – and take it pretty seriously. Not only do we build & test landing pages for webinars, customer demos, ebooks, events, co-marketing campaigns, we also use it for our job application process. If you check out our careers page (yes, it was built with Unbounce) you’ll see that we don’t want you to send us your resume; they’re generally boring and outdated. Instead, we want you to use our product, build a landing page and tell us why you’re a great fit.

When creating your landing page, we ask that you include who you are, past experience, why you want to work at Unbounce, and links to any social profiles; LinkedIn, Twitter, blogs or personal websites. Depending on the role we’ll ask for your GitHub profile (Dev), websites or apps you’re inspired by (Design/Product), or how you’d respond to a certain customer inquiry (Customer Success).

Most companies may ask you about their product at some stage, but it’s rare to see a company that will make you use their product to apply. We feel it weeds out candidates who send generic resumes and gives you the flexibility and creativity to tell us who you are. By using Unbounce before you even meet with us, it will hopefully make you familiar with our tool, speak to our product, perhaps even give us some feedback and most importantly feel excited about what we’re building. And guess what? It’s worked. We’ve had some amazing applications that have knocked it out of the park.

So what landing pages *land* you a job at Unbounce? Here is a ‘best of’ list:

Tia is our resident Social Strategist. She’s the brains and beauty behind all of Unbounce’s social channels. After seeing her page, you’ll see why we pretty much had to hire her.

Luis lives in Brazil and is one of our newest finds in the Creative Team working for us on a contract basis. His page shows tons of personality and the cherry on top? Pulling on our heartstrings at the end.

Ahmed moved across the country to work at Unbounce in our Customer Success department. To say he was pretty enthusiastic about working at Unbounce would be a huge understatement.

If you get to know James, you’ll see get that this application is meant to be slightly sarcastic and cheeky. It got our attention (along with his GitHub profile) to bring him on as a Rails developer.

Felix is another new addition to the Unbounce team. He’ll be our Customer Success videographer and you can’t look at this page without checking out his first video. (password: unbouncecha)
